*Introduction
In these days, design already becomes the most valuable study and business. Many students want to study in design and they, of course, want to be a famous designer in the near future. So they always concern how to show their design works and how to participate in many design projects even if those are virtual. That’s why the students attend to design contests. There are many well known design contests all over the world, especially reddot design award, IF and so on. But some problems still remain. When some people who have no skill in design want to participate in a design contests, it’s hard to develop their ideas into visualization. And even though participants studied in design, they don’t know all of design contests in the world. They also don’t have much time to join many contests simultaneously. And sometimes, when they develop their ideas in design, they need help from people who studied in other fields, except design. For example, if some designers want to join a design contest about medicine, then it’s better to design with people who studied medicine. These are reasons why I want to make an open source design community that would help people who want to do well in design contets.
*Feature of this process
1. You can join design contests even though you don’t have any experiences about design.
2. You can develop ideas with other field’s people.
3. You can challenge a big contest, even you are not enough to finish the work alone.
4. Much information about design contests can be shared in this community.
5. You can start more than one design contest’s work at the same time.
6. You can make relationships with other designers.
7. You can participate in many different design works.
8. If you are awarded in many contests, then you’ll be able to make much money!

ReplyDeleteI think it's very useful Idea but also really hard to start. The most easy way to start it, you have to connect with another web site about contests. And some technical information could be more easy to find in a library.
The biggest problem is nobody want to upload their source but also no time to do that becouse most contests have very short term.
How do you make them upload their source. It's really different with 'just' design source web site.

ReplyDeleteWow! Your basic idea is so cool.
But I am considering it will be difficult to gather each one's ideas. Becaus it is a "contest"! It seems to me that is not a just collaborative design community. Originally, I guess you gonna make a website which is open to all the people on the planet. But in my point of view in your project maybe people will be reluctant sharing own idea with open door because people will in competition with others for prize even though people do share ideas on the open collaborative website.
As I mentioned eariler, it could be hard to run this project because of an award and competition for contest.
Basically, if someone want to join the website
someone really will be reqired to login and to make a group for contests.
That means each team's ideas basically woudln't be share with other team memebrs or someone who visit the website by accident. That means this is not an open collaborative design. Your idea can be a just gathering people who want to participate in Design Contests.
U should think about all informations could be open all the people! I don't think it can be easily share informations for keen competition.

ReplyDeleteYes I agree with Song's opinion. I have also though about the gap between open-design and competition. But open-source-works are in full swing even business is more competitive than contest. It's easy to steal someone's idea from just open-design than open-design-contest. I know that open-design business is protected by some regulations, such as 'CC'(Creative commons). So I want to use 'CC' to open-design-contest. When we want to finish a design work, we have to through some steps. So we could protect our works in period of the contest by applying 'CC' to each steps. It's not perfect solution, but I hope find it. And plz help me with your good ideas :)

ReplyDeleteI think it's a great way to gather information and develop new ideas for design process for competitions. Since ideas will develop faster if there are more people contributing their brain power. Also by being able to enter many competition at once will increase chance of winning, however if there are going to be many people contributing to a project, even if you win, the money will have to be shared among everyone, so I don't necessarily agree that you can make more money than if you were on your own.
I think if this is to be carried out the advantages would be-gaining experiences, learning a new way of thinking by sharing ideas with different types of people, which are great for people who are not experienced in field of design. Since helping such group was the motivation of this business model, I think it is interesting, although I would like to know more about the financial aspect of this model.
