Self publishing Design
> Introduction
This project is basically about self-build book design. Coming up with this idea for a customized and personalized book ordering system. This suggestion is based on book publishers produce books focussing on personal tastes. Fisrt step is mainly people would buy a text file( PDF)of book via publisher's website on the internet and then if someone want to copy the book on the paper at the same time, customers will be able to design book cover and text pages on their own. At the end, publisher will check out the personal design and they publish the book
according to customer's design image file. The main point is that this system is people can get own design style book which made by personal needs. Finally, people can enjoy designing and building own their book contents. Also, customers they could share own book design templets with other customers mutually.
> Features of this system
1. You can change the font size and font color.
2. You can choose the size of the book.
3. you can select main color and images of book cover.
4. you can create layout of each pages with any styles you wish.
5. you can choose paper that you prefer.
6. It can show you 2D graphic program on the website.
7. people can share their own design sources on the website.
8. In case, someone do not need to have an end product,
they can print out book personally at home.
9. It has an automatic book design maker program and manual on the web
so that anyone can access easily even if someone is a begginer of book editorial design.

ReplyDeleteI think we need to develop the point that is designing image files. If I can chose just colors, layout and images on a book, it's little bit limited to expand this model. The feature that anyone can access easily is good, but we need to develop how we create more contents for books with collaboration. And we also have to think about who control the quality of books. Kinds of books' format and layout are really important when we read them. For example, format and layout should be changed in accordance with letters' quantity or contents' type. It could be a problem when somebody only choses a format what he wants without considering the contents, because the book which is the result could be hard to read :) So that's why we need to think about how to keep the quality and who keeps quality.

ReplyDeleteI think it could be good if we adapt it illustration of juvenile stories. Somebody really want to draw illustration of juvenile storie but it's really hard. Becouse we already have lots of illustrator. But after this project, they can make their own juvenile book and it could be their own portfolio too.
But you need to make some regulations like CC.
I think it's most important thing for this process. Becouse some writers don't want to be done this process on their book.

Wow..I recognized I have some problems on my project.
first, as Min said I have to think about developing with collaboration stuff.
Second, Sujin mentioned most book authors do not want to break the copyright regulations...

ReplyDeleteI like the idea about choosing fonts and paper, it's intrigging.
But for those who wants to publish a copy of the book but doesn't like any of the font style or images, can they also make their own and upload? So this system will have ongoing expanding selection of images, fonts contributed by people.
I'm also wondering about the price range. Since this is not going to be a mass production will it cost more than the mass produced books we buy at the store?s If so how much difference will there be?
Anyway great idea~
